Quippy clothing retailer Raygun, which recently opened a store in the Quad Cities, has met its match.

The Des Moines-based company, known nationwide for its sassy T-shirt slogans, is partnering with famed satirical news organization The Onion for a line of sarcastic headline-inspired products.

The product line marks The Onion’s first-ever foray into brick-and-mortar stores. The line features more than three dozen items that range from holiday tree ornaments and T-shirts to baby bibs and cork beverage coasters.

The Onion throws light shade at the Hawkeye state with apparel like “The Onion: Iowa aims to keep young people from moving out of state with new ‘The Stress Will Kill Your Mother’ retention campaign” and a “The Onion: Iowa leaves big saran-wrapped bowl of potato salad at Illinois border after making too much” shirt.

Raygun called the collaboration between the two companies “The Greatest Collaboration in the Universe” in a news release and said more items featuring never-before-seen headlines and classics are in the clothing catalog, with more coming soon.

The clothing giant’s new Davenport store, located at 201 Second. St. near the Figge Art Museum, Barrel House and Salon Static in an eclectic downtown neighborhood, marks the company’s fifth in-state location.

Owner Mike Draper told The Des Moines Register this fall that the cheeky company was eyeing an expansion in the Quad Cities for quite some time due to Davenport’s growing downtown development.
