Event to recognize farmworkers and raise funds to support non-profit’s mission

Proteus, Inc. is hosting their annual fundraising event called, “I’m Thankful for Farmworkers”. While faced with another year of virtual delivery, Proteus is offering a variety of ways to bring the event to life in the comfort of your own home!

The event will take place Friday, November 5th virtually through OneCause, a dedicated one-stop shop platform that will provide the most engaging experience for supporters. Other streaming options will be available.

The event begins at 5:30 pm with a program that will celebrate farmworkers, partner agencies, a silent auction, and more.

Acclaimed multimedia artist Justin Favela will be the featured speaker of the evening. Favela’s work is the subject of a solo exhibition at the Des Moines Art Center titled Central American, on view through January 23, 2022. For over 41 years, Proteus has worked one-on-one with agricultural workers. Proteus bridges the gap to support agricultural workers in accessing healthcare, education, employment and training, and housing services. With the help of donors, Proteus is able to continue to empower farmworkers and expand services across all three states; Iowa, Indiana, and Nebraska.

Over the past year Proteus has helped over 400 farmworking families achieve self-sufficiency,  provided healthcare to over 1,700 patients each year, and trained over 7,000 farmworkers on health and safety.  An updated strategic plan has identified an opportunity for the expansion of programs, such as taking the Proteus healthcare delivery model to small meat processing facilities.

Daniel Zinnel, Chief Executive Officer at Proteus, Inc. said, “The last eighteen months have been unprecedented for all of us, but especially farmworkers. They have shown up to work, no matter what, to help put food on our tables every single day. Our team shows up for farmworkers the way they show up for us, by meeting them where they are at and providing transformative access to services. We are thrilled to recognize farmworkers at this event and hope others join in the celebration.”

About Proteus, Inc.: Proteus is a multi-state 501c3 non-profit organization that provides services to farmworkers in Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana.
