The movie theater was not the only place you could find Harry Potter and friends on Friday, July 20th. Borders: Books, Music and Café hosted the Grand Hallows Ball for the release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” by J.K. Rowling. This is the seventh and final book in the series that follows Harry, Ron and Hermaine through their tales of friendship, love and death. Glow stick wands in hand, around 500 people of all
ages were in the store at 9 p.m. and store employee, Kathy Gimm predicted that, “By midnight when the book goes on sale, there will probably be over 1,000 people here.” She also said that, “This is a much bigger turnout than all the other years we have done this.” With a Potter Spelling Bee, a Great Snape Debate and a costume contest, it was like you had stepped in to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Alyssa DeLoach, from Davenport, Iowa, an avid Harry Potter fan, says that enjoys reading the Potter series. She also saw the latest Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, earlier that night. When asked to compare the two, she said, “I like the books better because it gives more details. Sometimes the movies skip the good parts. I’m not sad that the series is over because I have many more books to read.”
Her mother, Benita DeLoach, said, “I think it’s really nice they do this. It doesn’t appear that this is just for kids.”
As the costume contest went on, people of all ages clapped and cheered for each other. It looked as though Borders hosted a night of Potter madness. Now the only thing left is to read the book and see who lives in the end.
