The UFC may have had their first women’s title fight in their organization in February, but the Invicta FC league has been around since last year and had plenty of women’s title fights. On Friday, April 5th, Miletich Fighting System’s, Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak (7-2-0) will fight Vanessa Porto (15-5-0) for the flyweight title.
With Cris Cyborg breaking her contract with the UFC earlier this year and joining Invicta FC, Cyborg will also be fighting the same night in the fight right before Honchak’s co-main event. With the organization getting bigger and adding stars like Cyborg to the roster could add some pressure to the current fighters of Invicta FC, but not Honchak.
“I try not to think about that or let it bother me,” said Honchak. “She is just another fighter.” It seems that the public is finally giving women their due right in the sport and the Quad Cities is lucky to have one of those women paving the way right here in Bettendorf at MFS.
As Honchak is content with her home at Invicta FC, she doesn’t count the UFC out in the future. “With women’s MMA there has been up and downs,” said Honchak. “Invicta treats us so well and if I ever went to the UFC I would want to go on good terms.”
Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak will face Vanessa Porto for the Invicta FC flyweight title, Friday, April 5th, 2013 at Invicta FC 5 at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, MO. Go to www.invictafc.com to buy your online PPV ticket for only $9.95.
