The church formerly known as Mision Luterana Gracia now has a new name and location. The new name of the church is Iglesia Evangelica Luterana Cristo Rey and it is located on 1301-19th Street in East Moline, Illinois. “We have a new name and new address, but we still have the same purpose of confessing and teaching the name of Jesus Christ as our only Savior.” said Pastor Dominguez.
On Sunday, August 10, 2008 the church’s inauguration took place with a bilingual service in front of the new location. What took place at the inauguration was the traditional ribbon cutting by Pastor Dominguez and doors were open to the public by Rev. Joe Cluver. “We counted with the assistance of 60 people among them Anglos and Hispanics that support our Hispanic ministry in the Quad Cities,” said Pastor Dominguez, who also added that the event was organized by a committee formed by members of the Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey, Hispanics and Anglos from other Lutheran churches in the area.
The people who were present had the chance to see the remodeling. Those invited enjoyed delicious treats of Mexican cookies made by various women of the congregation. Pastors, Vicars and members of other Lutheran churches were present.
The new church was necessary for various reasons, since previously the church would have its services at a rented building with only three rooms. “Due to a growth of people that attended, members and visitors, at our church activities as well as our community social services, it was necessary to look for a bigger space,” said Pastor Dominguez.
Now, the new church has eight large rooms in which English classes, computer classes and Bible studies can take place. Pastor Dominguez also informed us that while looking for a new location they made sure it was in a visible area, there was parking available, that it had a playground for children, an altar and that it had spacious rooms.
The church will continue with its normal church hours that are:
Sundays
10:00 a.m – Worship Services
11:00 a.m – Bible Study
In the following weeks they will add Worship Services on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
English Classes – Thursdays, 6:00 p.m. and soon on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.
Basic Computer Classes (In Spanish) – Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m.
And also Boy Scouts – Cub Pack for children in 1st thru 8th grade.
The Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey also offers activities in which they provide school supplies for children, like they did on August 2nd in which 81 children received a school packet. Pastor Dominguez also mentioned that before winter starts they will be giving out glove, hats, scarves and blankets, they will have a food bank for those in need and clothes donations. The Pastor invites everyone to the new church. For more information about the new church and its services, you can call (309) 755-4757 or email [email protected].
