Slick City Action Park opened July 17 near Valley West Mall, joining museums, gardens and other year-round places for children across the metro.
Clive, Iowa — A new indoor slide park opened Friday, July 17, in Clive with 13 dry slides, a zip line, inflatable courts, an arcade and a separate play area for younger children.
Slick City Action Park occupies approximately 33,000 square feet at 9999 University Ave., inside the former Joann Fabrics location near Valley West Mall. It is the company’s first location in Iowa.
The slides do not use water. The park also includes padded landing areas and courts for basketball, dodgeball and other activities.
Admission starts at $26.99 for 90 minutes
Admission for guests ages 4 and older costs $26.99 for 90 minutes or $31.99 for 120 minutes.
Admission for children ages 3 and younger starts at $14.99. Grip socks are required and cost $4.99 per pair.
Food, arcade games and party packages are not included in the general admission price. Tickets and the required waiver are available online.
The park has a separate area for children ages 5 and younger with smaller slides, climbing structures and padded play features.

Other indoor activities are available across the Des Moines metro
The Des Moines Children’s Museum offers indoor play spaces for younger children. Admission is $6 for children ages 1 through 9, $4 for visitors age 10 and older, and free for children younger than 1.
Reduced admission through Museums for All costs $2 per person with an EBT or WIC card. Some participating libraries also provide free admission through the Iowa Adventure Pass program.
The museum is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed Sunday.
The Science Center of Iowa, at 401 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in downtown Des Moines, has hands-on exhibits, live programs and planetarium presentations.
General admission costs $15 for children ages 2 through 12, $20 for adults ages 13 through 64 and $15 for seniors 65 and older. Children younger than 2 enter free.
Families using SNAP, WIC or Medicaid can receive $5 admission per household member by presenting a qualifying card and photo identification at the front desk. The Science Center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed Monday.
Outdoor options include the zoo and botanical garden
Blank Park Zoo continues to offer daily animal programs, including penguin feedings, keeper talks and sea lion training demonstrations. The zoo train operates daily when weather allows and costs $3 for nonmembers and $2 for members; children younger than 2 ride free with a paying adult.
The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, at 909 Robert D. Ray Drive, charges $14 for adults and $10 for children ages 2 through 12. Children age 1 and younger enter free.
Up to four visitors can receive free admission with a SNAP or WIC EBT card and identification. Summer hours run Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The garden is closed Monday.
The adjacent Robert D. Ray Asian Garden is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is free to the public.
Slick City is open seven days a week
The regular hours for the Clive location are:
- Monday through Friday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Sunday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
