Mexico reached the final of the Beach Soccer World Cup but lost to the two time defending champions Brazil in a blowout 8-2. However, Mexico has nothing to be embarrassed about. The only losses for Mexico were to Brazil in the first round 6-4 and of course the final.
They defeated Russia in penalty kicks to start the tournament and defeated the Solomon Islands 6-3 to advance to the second round. Mexico defeated Spain in the quarterfinals 5-4 and beat Uruguay 5-2 in the semifinals to advance to the final.
Led by Morgan Plata who scored eight goals and had one assist, Mexico reached the final. Plata received the Adidas Silver Shoe because he was the second leading scorer in the tournament. He also received the Adidas Bronze show for being named the third best player of the tournament.
The tournament is held yearly in Rio de Janeiro and Plata told Fifa.com that if the players are kept intact, start working now, pick up experience and maintain the same attitude, Mexico can be among the best next year.
