Mexican-American Jaime Jaquez Jr. making history

Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 24 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He became the Mexican basketball player with the most points in one NBA game. The game took place yesterday November 30th, 2023 in which Jaquez took the Miami Heat to victory against the Indiana Pacers. The final score for the game was 142-132.

Jaime Jaquez Jr. was born in Irvine, California, and is of Mexican-American descent. He played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins. 

Some people are calling him the best rookie of this year for his great performance in various games. He has averaged 15 points per game. Jaquez has become an inspiration for the next generation of Mexican-American basketball players. 


In an interview for CBS Sports College Basketball, his dad says: “I know when I was growing up, I never had a chance to see someone with my last name play basketball. And I tell my son ‘Hey, you’re inspiring a lot of people” He proceeds to mention that he believes Jaime has the potential to pave the road for many kids like him and reassure them that they can do it as well.

‘Triple J’ is the first Mexican to be chosen in the first round of the NBA Draft and the third Mexican selected in an NBA Draft followed by Manuel Raga and Eduardo Najera.
