On June 24, 2021, the Marshalltown Police Department received allegations concerning potential exploitation and inappropriate contact between an adult male and a seventeen-year-old juvenile.
Further investigation revealed that the adult male has been a teacher in the Marshalltown Community School District and the juvenile has been a student in the district.
On June 30, 2021, the Marshalltown Police Department arrested Mark Edward Farris Esquivel, age 26, of Marshalltown. Mr. Esquivel has been charged with Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee (Class D Felony). Mr. Esquivel is being held in the Marshall County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

This is an active investigation. Allegations under investigation involve inappropriate contact and communication between Mr. Esquivel and the juvenile. It is alleged Mr. Esquivel engaged in a pattern of conduct by communicating with a minor for the purpose of soliciting sexual contact with said minor.
It is alleged Mr. Esquivel committed these acts while employed as a teacher and coach and that he knew the minor was under the age of eighteen.
This is an active investigation.
