Last year, Toys for Tots helped over 3,000 families and distributed toys for over 5,000 children in the Quad City area, with the number expected to increase by even more this year.
Assistant coordinator, Sgt. Genevieve Curry said that the local group was down on donations to date but high on registrations. Donations tend to increase for the organization after Thanksgiving when people start shopping for Christmas gifts.
“It’s more than double last time,” she said. “There’s a little concern but that’s all I can say.”
Curry moved to the Quad City area recently and just started helping out with Toys for Tots. She said “it’s a real good feeling” to know what they’re working for; a nice Christmas for children.
“It’s a mixture, the community puts through donations, the support from local business, watching everyone register gives a real good feeling,” she said. “It’s a great sense to see what communities are about.”
