We were all welcomed by LULAC Illinois State Director Dr. Maggie Rivera. Sol Flores the state of Illinois Deputy Governor was one of the many speakers at the conference.

One of the highlights of the conference was the acknowledgment and celebration of the LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC) 50th anniversary.

“The LNESC, the nation’s premier Hispanic nonprofit education organization, is commemorating its 50th anniversary in providing education and leadership programs for Hispanic and other students in need of financial assistance and educational counseling. Through the efforts of 16 education service centers across the U.S., including Puerto Rico, and a host of national programs, we proudly celebrate the positive impact on the future leaders of our communities.” said a statement on their website.

LNESC has assisted over 607,000 students on their path to higher education. With the support of partnerships representing many sectors, including 90 school partners, the LNESC national office, along with 16 education centers have:

  • Annually served 14,000 students through education and leadership programs
  • Awarded over $30 million in scholarship funds to-date
  • Sent 159,000 students to post-secondary education to-date
  • Provided training and leadership development opportunities to over 550 students to-date through the Washington Youth Leadership Seminar
  • Received the highest number of Department of Education TRIO program awards than any other non-profit organization or post-secondary institution

LULAC Illinois also recognized some of its members that have reached the milestone of being part of LULAC for 30 years, among them Jose and Maggie Rivera, Caroline Sanchez-Crozier and Santa Vazquez.

It was great seeing and reconnecting with our LULAC of Illinois brothers and sisters at the 67th Annual LULAC of Illinois State Conference.

Thank you, Blanca Vargas and Maggie Rivera, LULAC Illinois state director, for a warm welcome and congratulations to all the award recipients and to the newly elected LULAC IL State Officers.
