The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) of the QC would like to announce the beginning of the FIRST ever LULAC Fiesta Week! that will take place in both Iowa and Illinois starting September 12 through September 19.

 

LULAC Fiesta Week is a collaborative effort by the four LULAC Councils in the Quad Cities: LULAC Council 10 Davenport, Council 5285 Moline, Youth Council 600 Davenport and Saint Ambrose University Collegiate Council. 

These events commemorate the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrate the rich culture and great contributions that have defined the Latino community of the Quad Cities for over 100 years.

The celebrations begin with the 56th Annual LULAC Fiesta on Saturday September 12 at 4:30 PM at the LULAC Center located at 4224 Ricker Hill Road in Davenport, Iowa.

Council 10 in Davenport is the organizer of this Fiesta which is a night rich in family traditions, multi-faceted Latino culture with friends and family, and celebrations. One of the Highlights of the celebration is the tradition of the crowning of the LULAC Queen.

The event will feature performances by the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico, Glenview Mariachi band, and the Crooked Cactus Band (formerly Los Mocambos)

The Mexican Independence Day Celebration event will take place the following day Sunday September 13 in Downtown East Moline.

The event will feature the 7th Annual Mexican Independence Day starting at noon on 15 avenue followed by the program filled with live Music, Dance presentations featuring the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico and Glenview Mariachi band and plenty of vendors with some of the best Mexican Food in the QC.

To close the LULAC Fiesta Week Saturday September 19 will mark the return of VIVA QC Fiesta!

VIVA QC will take place in the Isle Casino parking lot in Bettendorf. The fiesta will run from 3PM – 11PM.

This year not only marks the return of VIVA QC it will also mark the return home for Tejano Music Sensation Braulio Y Fuzzion.

Braulio Rodriguez was born in Silvis, IL.  Quad Cities is his home where he grew up, fell in love with Tejano music and made his first steps as a song writer. In 2013 he was nominated to the prestigious Tejano Music Awards in the Best New Male Artist category

 

Braulio y Fuzzion come influenced by many different musical styles, like Rock, R&B, Pop, Salsa, Hip Hop, Mariachi and even Reggae, the band started to incorporate them creating their own unique Braulio y Fuzzion sound.

The purpose of these events is to fund scholarships for area students.

 

Proceeds from the ticket sales of the LULAC Council 10 Fiesta go directly to the LULAC 10 Scholarship Fund which awarded $25,000 in Scholarships to 33 Quad City high school students this summer.  

To date the Davenport Council has awarded close to $500,000 to approximately 755 area students. 

 

Since 1994 VIVA QC has awarded close to $260,000 in scholarships to area students.

 

The Mexican Independence Day Parade and Celebration proceeds will go to the newly created LULAC Council 5285 Moline Scholarship Fund.
