LULAC Council 10 of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) will celebrate its 50thAnniversary Gala commemorating the council’s historical presence in the Quad Cities since 1959. The 50thAnniversary Gala will be on Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, at the River Center in Davenport. Tickets for the event are $25 per person. LULAC National President Rosa Rosales of San Antonio, Texas is scheduled to attend and speak at the event.
Janet Weaver of the Women’s Archives at the University of Iowa will present a power point pictorial history of LULAC Council 10, showcasing some of its many accomplishments and highlighting profiles of LULAC leaders.
There are many well-known LULAC activists who through their affiliation with a number of community and public organizations have contributed to an improved quality of life of Hispanics and the overall community. They are: Henry Vargas; Ernest Rodriguez; Salvador Lopez; Robert Mata, Superintendent of the West Liberty School District; and many other LULAC members who for many years have volunteered their time to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the Quad Cities.
