Eddie Mauro (D-HD30) announces run for Iowa House of Representatives in newly drawn HD30.
Des Moines, IA – Former Lincoln High School and Dowling High School baseball coach, southside teacher, small business owner, and longtime southside resident Eddie Mauro is announcing his candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives for the newly drawn House District 30 on the south side of Des Moines. Mauro grew up in, taught, raised a family with his wife Sharilyn, and started a small business in House District 30. Mauro previously ran for Congress in 2018 and United States Senate in 2020.
“I’ve been committed to service in our community since I was a young person,” said Eddie Mauro, “I’m running because the south side needs a problem solver with a broad background to meet the challenges it faces. I’m proud of my south side roots, and I’m looking forward to meeting voters throughout the district and representing their interests in the Iowa Legislature.”
Eddie Mauro is announcing his candidacy with a release of over 150 endorsements from district residents, business owners, and leaders from the south side of Des Moines. He will be filing an initial campaign finance report showing over $75,000 raised. Mauro has already fundraised more than 3x the amount raised by a Democrat in this seat in 2020.
Eddie Mauro says he plans to focus on the economy and education, looking out for families, workers & small business owners who are the “Pride of the South Side,” and making sure health care is accessible and affordable for everyone.
“My career started as a public school teacher and as a coach, then I started a small business. Schools, workers, and small businesses on the south side are being left behind by growth and development in other parts of Des Moines and statewide,” said Mauro. He continued, “Having coached teams, I know that problems are solved working with others. That’s how you get to a win. From day one, I’ll be talking with other legislators who are experiencing the same challenges in their districts, so we can craft solutions that benefit the South Side and all of Iowa. An economy that works for everyone, higher wages, strong schools, and a commitment to our community. That’s how I’ll represent the South Side in the Iowa Legislature.”
Eddie has lived in the same house on SW 31st since 1993 with his wife of 31 years, Sharilyn. The Mauro’s have two children, Mia and Dominic, and their small business, UIG, is headquartered on McKinley Avenue in House District 30. Eddie helped start “The Purify Project” with members of Christ the King Catholic Church, providing clean water to schools and parishes in Tanzania, and was part of the founding group that started “AMOS” in Des Moines – focusing on community challenges with grassroots organizing and advocacy in partnership with faith and community leaders. Eddie also serves on the board of Creative Visions in Des Moines.
