Moline, IL-As blistering cold weather has taken over our area the last few days, there is no better time than to think about the summer and a few popular road races that fill our streets every year.

The Firecraker, Freedom and QC Marathon Runs always deliver in the months of July, August and September.  These are the events that set the standard for races in the Quad Cities and they give participants much more than just the run itself on race day.

In the same spot, just a few weeks later, Runners Park in downtown East Moline will turn into the home of the Freedom Run 5K.  This event pays homage to the local Military members and their families in the spirit of comradery and community.  Participants can choose from a 5K, the Tyson Double Time loop, if you feel like one 5K wasn’t enough and along with those options, a 1-mile fun run/walk and Ground Pounder Fun Run for the little ones are also on the list to choose from.   And, when you cross the finish line the heavily coveted FR dog tags are given in place of a medal.
