ALBIA, IOWA – Today, Focus on Rural America Co-founder and former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge, released a statement on the delayed White House disaster response to the storm that unleashed hurricane-force winds on Iowa families and farmers seven days ago. As Lt. Governor, Judge served as Iowa’s Homeland Security Advisor during the massive floods in 2008 that upended many of the same communities hit by the Derecho.
“Last week Vice President Pence stopped in Iowa but he did not set foot on a farm or view any Iowa sites devastated by the storm that took power from more than 200,000 Iowans and damaged 14 million acres of crops. Today, President Trump is still deciding whether or not he’ll fly-over the Derecho damage on his way to campaign stops in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
“Iowans in trouble should be a top priority, not a veiled PR stunt. We need leaders who care and who will act immediately when needed, not a week later when they realize their numbers need a boost.”
