Most interstates in Iowa remain closed after a blizzard moved across the state on Sunday, March 15, causing dangerous road conditions.
Here’s a look at the latest Iowa road conditions from the Iowa Department of Transportation:
When will I-35 open in Iowa?
Interstate 35 is closed from U.S. Highway 30 in Ames to the Minnesota border, according to the Iowa DOT.
No estimate for reopening is available. Iowa DOT plow tracking data shows multiple snowplows working to clear the interstate.
While new snow has stopped falling along the I-35 corridor, wind gusts are expected to cause problems through much of Monday. In Mason City, wind gusts are forecast to remain above 30 mph until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
When will I-80 reopen in Iowa?
Interstate 80 has partially reopened in Iowa.
Westbound I-80 from West Des Moines to the Nebraska border opened to traffic around 7:30 a.m., according to the Iowa DOT. Eastbound I-80 remains closed between Interstate 880 near Mindent to the Jordan Creek Parkway exit in West Des Moines.
I-80 is open through Des Moines, but closed again between Altoona and Coralville.
There is no time estimate for reopening the other sections of I-80.
Is there still a blizzard warning in Iowa?
A blizzard warning remains in place for parts of northeast Iowa until 8 a.m.
In Iowa City, the blizzard warning remains until 11 a.m. and some counties along the Mississippi River are under a blizzard warning until 2 p.m.
Are there any road closures in Des Moines?
All state-maintained roads remain open through Des Moines.
The Mile Long Bridge on Iowa Highway 415 over Saylorville Lake was closed on Sunday due to high winds. It is open again as of Monday morning.
Iowa DOT road conditions map: Travel not advised
Most roads in Iowa are labeled as travel not advised on Monday morning, according to the Iowa DOT.
Some highways in western Iowa are listed as partially covered.
In Des Moines, I-235, I-80/35 and Iowa Highway 5 are listed as partially covered. U.S. Highway 65 between Pleasant Hill and I-80 is completely covered.
Are tow bans in place in Iowa?
More than 30 counties in Iowa have tow bans in place, meaning assistance will not be available if a driver goes off the road.
