On Saturday, January 18, 2020 the Quad City Symphony Orchestra will present two performances of the Academy-Award®-winning film, Disney and Pixar’s Coco™ in Concert at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. This family-friendly event will feature the entire full-length film with dialogue projected on the big screen in high definition while QCSO Assistant Conductor, Ernesto Estigarribia leads the full orchestra performing Oscar®-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s original score. Hola America News the parent company of Hola Iowa is the media partner for this cultural event and will be celebrating the beginning of Hola America’s 20th Anniversary year.
“I am thrilled to be leading performances of Coco Live in Concert,” said Estigarribia. “There is no better way to share the joy of music than with a movie about the joy of music. It is particularly amazing that the QCSO is one of the first orchestras in the world presenting Disney and Pixar’s Coco™ Live in Concert which makes me feel very proud of our community and our orchestra. The music of this film is fabulously composed and plays great homage to the rich and diverse culture of Mexico.”
“Hola America News is proud to kick-off our 20th year celebration partnering with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra in their live performance of Disney and Pixar’s Coco™ in Concert.” said Tar Macias founder and publisher of Hola America News and Hola Iowa.
“We at Hola America pride ourselves in our commitment to reflect our Latino community fairly and with dignity. And the film Coco is a great reflection of our Latino culture and we are grateful for the opportunity of collaborating with the QCSO in this amazing event.” Macias added.
Executive Director Brian Baxter is excited about this collaboration with Hola America.
“We are excited to share Coco’s powerful story about family, love, loss, and music with the entire Quad Cities. We are so grateful to Hola America for their partnership as we highlight our community’s strength in diversity through this beautiful cultural story.”
Ernesto Estigarribia also wanted to extend a special invitation to members of the Hispanic community to attend Disney Pixar’s Coco in Concert on January 18, 2020 at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, IA.
“I am very excited to conduct Coco in a live-to-movie performance in January. I would love to see many members of our Hispanic Community in there. There is no better way to be introduced to a live orchestra concert experience than with a movie we all love,” he said.
The QCSO also partnered with community organizations Mercado on Fifth, Figge Art Museum, and the GQCHCC to transform the Adler Theatre/River Center into the Land of the Dead with special pre-show activities including performances from the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico and Glenview Middle School Mariachi Band.
“The Adler Theater will be transformed into a vibrant and festive event, with fun for the whole family,” said Mercado on Fifth Director Melissa Freidhof-Rodgers. “Mercado vendors will transport visitors to another place with the sights, sounds and flavors of Mexico, by serving traditional Mexican cuisine, including homemade tamales, elote (Mexican street corn), atole (a traditional drink enjoyed during Mexican holidays made of hot corn and masa typically served with tamales), Day of the Dead face-painting, retail items, and art.”
