An approximate 1.24 mile route through the Morgan Park area will be the walk for elementary students ages 5-11 to the New Hamilton School upon Garfield School being closed. An approximate 1.2 mile route up hilly terrain lacking sidewalks will be the walk for same age students from Ericsson School to Lincoln-Irving School. The district will not be required to provide transportation for students residing less than 1.5 miles from school locations. The district’s plan for transportation of elementary-age students will be riding city buses. Whether walking or riding city buses, parents have expressed their concerns related to the dangers and hardship children will face each day as they try to get to and from school, especially during our variable weather conditions.
Friends for the Preservation of Small Neighborhood Schools are an organized group of citizens promoting quality education by preserving small neighborhood elementary schools in Moline.
