As the first heat wave of the summer has seemed to pass for now, Fitness First Plus looks to bring the heat back to the Quad Cities

in the form of punches and kicks as they host an outdoor MMA event; Stars, Stripes and Fights on Saturday, July 21st

It was last July when the gym hosted the boxing event, “Salute to our Soldiers”, and this year, General Manager, Jose Cerda wanted to change it up a bit.  “MMA is a growing field,” said Cerda.  “Our goal is to direct these fighters and help them along their journey as far as where they want to go.”  One such fighter that has added the path of MMA instructor at Fitness First Plus as well as still being a full time fighter is Team Evolution’s, Anthony “The Prince” Nache.

Nache will be headlining the night’s event and talks a little about how the transition from fighter to fighter and coach has been.  “It’s cool to see my teachings and my fighters display it in the cage,” said Nache.  “It is hard though, when you have a fight coming up.  You have to push the coach part to the side and concentrate on yourself.”

Having added new strength and conditioning coach, Stephanie Inness to the Fitness First Plus Team, Nache recognizes what an important key to victory she is for himself as well as for the gym.  “I’ve lost a significant amount of weight using her meal plans,” said Nache.  “Her workouts are hard and intense and we appreciate her a lot.”  With an impressive record of 16-1, Nache is always thinking about his future in the sport. “I’d like to go pro by the end of the year,” said Nache.  “I’m trying to find the right camp that has everything I need before I take the next big step.”

As Fitness First Plus is known for always giving back to the community and their patrons, partial proceeds from the night’s event will go to the family of Cpl. Bryant Luxmore.  Luxmore was killed in action serving in Afghanistan on June 10, 2012.  “This show isn’t about the fighters.  It’s about something bigger that that” explained Nache.  “It’s about one of our nation’s heroes and taking care of his family for him giving the ultimate sacrifice.”
