The mariachi is one of Mexico’s most important traditions.  As a Mexican symbol, it is proudly admired by many people from different countries as much as it is in Mexico and in the United States we have become accustomed to include the Mariachi in our celebrations and festivals as well.

When this Mexican symbol performs, we know that we’ll be surrounded by a fun and entertaining environment, since we enjoy the traditional Mexican songs that they sing and they stand out with their traditional colorful mariachi attire decorated with beautiful details.  A mariachi is known to be courteous and a gentlemen, but how about a mariachi that that performs scenic dances and humorous improvisations while interpreting Mexican music?

That’s right!  We’re talking about the “Mariachi Clown”, a three person show of living statues that wear the traditional mariachi attire in the colors of the Mexican flag: green, white and red.  The group is made up of Roberto Avendaño, Sandra Moreno, and Juan Carlos Nava.  The “Mariachi Clown” began in 2005 as part of the Cornisa 20 Theatrical Group that’s based out of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

This spectacle has presented itself in many parts of the world like Japan, France and of course, the U.S. in cities such as San Francisco and Dallas.  Now it’s our turn to witness this fun show on Sunday, May 4, since they will be performing here in Moline thanks to the support of the Casa Guanajuato Cultural Center and the Migrant Support Council.
