Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused during her lifetime. This, according to the website endabuse.org, is an unfortunate fact that includes women even in the Quad Cities. When cases like these do arise, there is a trustworthy organization to turn to for help.
Global Awareness Consulting, a multicultural coaching, training and consulting company, will be presenting the panel Prevention of Domestic Violence: Facts and Myths.
“Prevention is the key to stopping domestic violence,” Jackie Tome, president of Global Awareness Consulting, said. “This seminar will help people understand their local resources.” First-hand stories about domestic violence cases will be shared as well as a question and answer session from those attending.
“The sources of the questions that will be answered will be confidential so that no one is afraid to ask,” Tome added. “There will be two separate rooms in the library for anyone who wants to personally ask a panel member a question.”
A few of the panel members will include a family therapist, a lawyer, a member of the Department of Child and Family Services, one police officer and two survivors of domestic violence cases.
The panel discussion will take place at the Moline Public Library on Tuesday, July 28, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is free to the public; however, there is a limit to the number of participants attending. If interested, please confirm your presence by calling Jackie Tome at 309-269-6345 or by email at [email protected].
