The holiday season is the time we look forward tochiropractor gathering with family, running around shopping and eating a lot.  For some, it is the most stressful time of the year and it can take a toll on the body when it is over.  When you look back at the holiday season you have many great memories and presents, but you are also left with a few extra pounds and maybe some aches in your body.  Wouldn’t it be nice to go somewhere where you could shed some weight as well as have chiropractors around who could then adjust your body as well as instill a positive healthy outlook on life?

Dr. Mark Schmall has done just that at Maximum Health & Fitness Center in Rock Island, Ill.

“The facility is a wellness and rehab facility with doctor supervised rehab and fitness exercise.” said Dr. Schmall.

During his years as a chiropractor, Dr. Schmall has noticed that a lot of his patients over time are aging and eventually acquire common illnesses that most Americans get such as; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease.  So about three years ago he added a gym area to his chiropractic business so that he could create individualized programs for his patients.  This way he could oversee their progression as well as give them a safe and comforting facility as they rehab their bodies.  He has seen the most success with his senior rehab and fitness program.

Some patients will come in with walkers or canes and after several months with the program they give up these aides because they are more functionally fit.
“With people living longer and longer, unless you can have the function and quality of life associated with that, living longer for the sake of living longer to me doesn’t really matter to me,”  Dr. Schmall stressed.

Getting out of pain is just the first phase at Maximum Health & Fitness Center.  Dr. Schmall wants his patients to live up to their peak function and performance.  Dr. Schmall says that some of his patients who come in are on prescription medications.  During the time with his program they will go back to their doctors and sometimes have there dosage reduced or will be taken off completely because they are in such better shape.

Dr. Schmall explains that he has worked with many different types of people throughout his time such as mixed martial artists, professional athletes as well as overweight teenagers.  With obesity being a national epidemic, Dr. Schmall stresses personal health education to these patients.

“It’s more making them realize that they are ultimately responsible if they want to stay an obese teenager that will most likely lead to being an obese adult.  We do a lot of nutrition education with them as well as supervised fitness with them,” said Dr. Schmall.

He wants all of his patients but especially his young and at-risk patients to realize that they are important enough to take care of themselves even at a young age.

With success from his Rock Island Center, Dr. Schmall is looking to open another facility in the East Moline or Silvis area.  He noticed that the average person does not want to go very far for their exercise and only want to be there for about 30 minutes.  His programs don’t last much more than that and with a free initial consultation you almost owe it to yourself to go in and check on your health.

So this holiday season takes a toll on you, or if you want to eat that extra cookie, feel at ease knowing there is a place you can go that will help you get back to the health you want to be.
