Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta Queen Candidates

The annual Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta is Saturday, September 27 from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 800 17th Street in Silvis. The fiesta starts at 2 p.m. with a performance by El Quetzacoatl Folkroico of Aurora, Ill. At 4 p.m. there will be an outdoor mass with Spanish singers and the crowning of the 2008 fiesta queen. At 5 p.m. the Quad City Ballet Folkroico will perform and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. there will be dancing to the music of Los Mocambos. Admission is $5 for anyone 12 and over, children under the age of 12 get in free. New this year is a souvenir t-shirt which are available by calling (309) 755-7261 or (309) 792-3867. The young lady to be crowned Fiesta Queen will be determined by the one who sells the most 50/50 raffle tickets. These are the candidates:

Alejandra Martínez, Why are you running for Fiesta Queen? To see the experience, put on a resume.
Talent/s: Soccer, go shopping, different stuff, and into math.
School: Sophomore at United Township High School.
College plans: I haven’t really thought about that yet.
Dream: Become a lawyer or beautician (working with hair, nails)

Cristina Mendoza, daughter of Virginia Martinez.
Why are you running for Fiesta Queen? Something I’ve never done before, try something new.
Talent/s: I like to be with my friends, go to quiceañeras, parties, and play soccer.
School: Senior at United Township High School.
College plans: I plan on going to college.
Dream: Become a nurse.

Eveleidy Mendoza, daughter of Lorenzo and Lilia Mendoza.
Why are you running for Fiesta Queen? I looked at the ad and it seemed really interesting.
Talent/s: I don’t have any. I like math, go dance at break dance parties, quinceañeras.
School: Senior at Rock Island High School.
College plans: She’s taking vocalization class at LaJames College for Cosmetology.
Dream: Cosmetologist (hair, makeup).

Martha Morales, daughter of Martin and Eva Morales
Why are you running for Fiesta Queen? Not sure, it’s something that could help me for college.
Talent/s: Pretty good student, best subject in school is math.
School: Junior at Davenport West High School.
College plans: Not sure, maybe business administration or accounting.
Dream: Have my own business.

Lucy Vázquez, daughter of Angel and Luz Marie Vazquez.
Why are you running for Fiesta Queen? It’s something different, fun and interesting.
Talent/s: A little good playing soccer, love to play, and play for Moline.
School: Junior at Moline High School.
College plans: Plan on going to college, still undecided, maybe something with nursing.
Dream: Nurse
