Take your health in your own hands! Don’t wait until illness strikes you and learn to prevent it or lower the risk of getting sick. All women are invited to attend a special event hosted by Illinois Migrant Council and the Whiteside County Health Department called Night of Health for Latina Women. A Night of Health for Latina Women will be on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Latin American Social Club located at 2708 W. 4th St., Sterling, IL.
This event will be fun and informative and it will be presented in both English and Spanish. Evette VonHolten a registered nurse from the health department will present information in English while Nancy Vock, also from the health department, will translate everything to Spanish. These two women will talk about IBCCP (Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program). This program is for women who reside in Illinois and who do not have medical insurance and those who qualify for the program will get their Pap test paid for, and if you area woman over 40 you could get a voucher for a mammogram. If you think you or someone you know could benefit from this program please come to the event where you can also receive help filling out the IBCCP application.
After the informative part of this meeting, women will be able to enjoy some fun activities. The participants will be able to do some exercise and even get some information about healthy eating.
“All activities will help support a healthy lifestyle and will give you ideas to reduce risk of cancer and other diseases,” Theresa Hooper, one of the organizers of the event, explained.
In addition, as part of Night of Health for Latina Women there will be resource fair. Different organizations of the area will be providing information about services they offer. Among different organization these are the ones that will be at the event: Whiteside County Health Department, Illinois Migrant Council, Sauk Valley Community College, YWCA of the Sauk Valley, and Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.
