Republican presidential nominee John McCain was at the Davenport RiverCenter Saturday, Oct. 11 for a brief rally. He outlined his priorities for reforming Washington and stimulating the American economy. Signs and posters were distributed by the Central High School cheerleading squad, and the hall was decorated with large banners reading “Country First” and “Reform”, which were thematic of the rally. The Arizona Senator seemed confident, despite recent struggles to hold key swing states, including Iowa. “We need change and I know how to do it,” McCain said. “When Sarah Palin and I get to the White House, we’ll turn Washington upside-down. We’ll change this culture of greed, corruption, and incompetence.”
The rally was briefly interrupted by a pair of anti-war protesters from Iowa City. Sen. McCain urged for bipartisan dialogue and offered to talk to the protestors, but the sentiment was not returned and they were escorted outside shortly afterwards. But the overall tenor of the rally was positive and cheerful.
“I will fix the economy and get our country back on track,” McCain eagerly promised to the cheering crowd.
