Letters Home to Hero Street, a documentary by Fourth Wall Films and WQPT-PBS, is an Official Selection at the 2015 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival. The film will screen on the opening night of the festival, Friday April 17th, at 7:25 p.m. and again on Saturday, April 18th at 7:12 p.m. at the Collins Road Theatres, 1462 Twixt Town Road, Marion, Iowa.
The 30-minute documentary is in competition with four other films in the professional documentary category.
“We are very pleased that this special film that tells just a part of Frank Sandoval’s story captured the attention of the film festival judges,” said producer Tammy Rundle. “It is an honor to be selected and to have that recognition for Frank’s family and the other seven heroes of Hero Street, USA in Silvis, Illinois.”
Letters Home to Hero Street focuses on a young Mexican-American veteran’s personal view of World War II as told through the letters sent home to his family in Silvis, Illinois. He becomes one of eight veterans of WWII and the Korean War killed in combat from the same block-and-a half-long neighborhood now called Hero Street, USAâmore than any other street in America.
The film was produced by award-winning filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle and Lora Adams. It stars Eric Juarez, Maya Chavez, Cindy Ramos and Josh Wielenga. WQPT’s Chris Ryder was the cinematographer on the project. Letters Home to Hero Street received a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
A number of the cast and crew will attend the film festival. An award ceremony will take place at the end of the festival on Saturday evening, April 18th at 9 p.m.
