In the month of January, Elim Covenant Church was studying Outflow. Outflow was a study based off the book by Steve Sjogren and David Ping with the same title.
The book and the study both looked at how the church can enjoy a life that’s filled to the brim with God’s love, joy and hope. It also looks at how life starts with a deep relationship with God, then flows out to touch your family and friends. Your neighbors. Your world. Basically, the book looks at how we can show God’s love, to our world, in a practical way instead of being complacent with attending services on Sunday morning and forgetting about the “Great Commission.” The study took place during Elim’s Sunday school and Bible Study on Wednesday evening for 6 weeks.
Cristian and Marisa Alemán, leaders of Live It! Fellowship, also took part in the study with Elim Covenant Church. “It was a way for us to look deeper into the call that God had for us as a church. Our name, “Live It! Fellowship,” wants to embody exactly that. To live God’s word, love, and above all for the world to experience those things just as we have,” says Cristian.
After the study was over the men’s group at Elim Covenant and the men from Live It began to ask themselves, how can this become a lifestyle and not a program? The men began a food drive and deliver the food to the families being affected by the economy’s recession and taking up collections to buy non-perishables for these families. “We didn’t want to be a church that stood by and did nothing. If there was something we learned from “Outflow” is that we will never show God’s love if we just show it within our 4 walls. We don’t have to go out, we get to go out of our 4 walls and do it,” say some of the men from Elim’s group.
