Black Hawk College continues for the second year in a row and fourteenth year overall, the International Festival. Tickets are $1 in advance and can be purchased at the Black Hawk College bookstore. Children 12 and under are admitted for free, tickets purchased the day of the event, Saturday, April 26 are $2. The event is from 2 to 7 p.m. in the upper gym in Building Three.
Festival attendees will be able to browse the “World Market” and purchase items from places such as Nepal, Guatemala, and Russia, as well as hand crafted jewelry items and also stuffed animals for children. Food will have a variety of Italian, European, Middle Eastern, Mexican and Chinese available.
At 3:30 p.m. a special children’s theater performance written especially for the festival by BHC Prof. Stephen Baldridge called “STICKS”. At 5 p.m. an International Fashion Show will feature native costumes from around the world coordinated by Danica McMullen.
Other performers include: Liberian Association Dancers, Zloti Village Chorus (Slavic Songs), Togolese Community Dancers, Filipiniana Dancers of the Philippine American Association, Zumba (hip-hop & salsa) dancers, BHC Concert Choir featuring Professor Galen Leonbardy singing two Nez Perce Native American Songs, Kelsy Qu representing U.S.-China People’s Friendship Association playing Chinese tunes on cello, John Morrow of Shao-lin Chuan Kung Fu Martial Arts, Kalanjali Dancers – Sreedevi Nair and students performing Classical Indian Dances, Fire in the Belly Celtic band, Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico, Songs from Bangladesh featuring Dr. Matlub Ahmad family and friends, Spanish “Cuadro Flamenco” Dancers featuring Gladys Navarro, Conchita Lucas-Murillo, Olenka Gadzik, Uzbekistan Dance by Inna Kogay, Imelda Crinklaw – singing Mexican songs, Native American Society –Q.C.
