With Super Bowl weekend quickly coming up, pairings like chips and dip and wings and celery are pretty common to see around the table. Another duo that has taken over football’s biggest weekend in the Quad Cities is the Bacon and Beer Festival:Pigskin Classic at the RiverCenter in downtown Davenport, IA.
On Friday, February 3rd, for the third year in a row, over 100 different types of beer will be able to be sampled from neighboring breweries like Green Tree Brewery from LeClaire and Backpocket Brewing from Coralville along with chefs from J Bar and Starting Line, just to name a few. Pub inspired games will be around and also everyone’s favorite part of the fest, the bacon eating contest. “Bacon and beer enthusiasts will enjoy sampling the best bacon inspired dishes from the area with carefully selected beer pairing,” said RiverCenter Adler Theatre’s Assistant General Manager, Heather Brummel. “This is a celebration of all things brew and bacon.”
And new to this year, along with the Squealer award for best bacon inspired dish an award for best brewery will also be handed out voted on by the patrons. Also, Sean Moeller, founder of the areas music venue Daytrotter booked bands, Hembree and The Artisanals to provide the evening’s music. “We have a lot of new and returning participants which I think speaks volumes for this event.” said Brummel.
Downtown Davenport has really tried to pick up the pace lately with new restaurants and bars opening and hosting events like the Bacon and Beer Fest shows its awareness for what Quad Citizens love and want. “We’ve had a positive response from both vendors and patrons alike,” said Brummel. “We hope that people come out and enjoy all the amenities that downtown Davenport provides before and after the event.”
