Director for the Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta, Jim Nelson is looking for high school age girls who would like to be Fiesta Queen. High school aged girls, entering their freshman year or coming out of high school are eligible. There are two fiesta queen candidates at the moment, Christina Mendoza of St. Mary’s East Moline and Sasha Jenkins of St. Anne’s East Moline, who will begin classes at Western Illinois University this fall. The two girls will be at the AMVETS 4th of July parade as well.

“We’re looking for more girls, if anyone is still interested. The way the girls are elected fiesta queen is by selling raffle tickets and the girl that sells the most is the new queen,” Nelson said. Interested candidates for the Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta Queen are encouraged to call him at 309-236-1396, soon.

This year’s Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta in Silvis is on Saturday, September 27 at 2 p.m. and begins with traditional Mexican dances, then at 4 p.m. an outdoor mass takes place followed by the crowning of the Fiesta Queen at 5 p.m.  Los Mocambos will play from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. There will be outdoor games for children. Authentic Mexican food prepared by the lady’s of the parish.
