If you’re looking to enjoy the outdoors and some live music this summer, central Iowa has plenty of offerings — and many are free.
Here are some of the concert series taking place this summer:
Ames Municipal Band

Nirmalednu Majumdar/Ames Tribune
One of Ames’ oldest organizations, the Ames Municipal Band, is now in its 101st season. The band plays free hour-long concerts every Thursday at Bandshell Park through July.
The free concerts begin at 8 p.m. at Bandshell Park.
The July 4 concert will begin at 7 p.m., before the community’s fireworks display.

Belin Quartet

Belin Quartet is coming back to the Salisbury House and Gardens this summer on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. through July. Chairs and bottled water are provided, and attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs and snacks.

Jasper Winery Summer Concert Series
Head to Jasper Winery on Thursday nights for a free concert series from 6-9 p.m. Food trucks are available along with beer, wine and sangria. The concerts are perfect for the whole family, just bring your own blankets or chairs. The series runs until July 31.

Music Under the Stars

One of the oldest free concert series in the metro, Music Under the Stars, is on for its 78th season. Bring a blanket and some snacks and head over for live bands on Sundays from 7-8:30 p.m. through June and July.

Nights in the Heights
The Windsor Heights Foundation is hosting another year of Nights in the Heights on Tuesday nights. Join June through July for weekly concerts from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Roosevelt Summer Sundays

A summertime tradition continues as Roosevelt Summer Sundays celebrates its 22nd year. The free outdoor concerts are held at Roosevelt Park, an Ames city park located at the corner of Ninth Street and Roosevelt Avenue.
Concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are free. A donation bucket is passed through the crowd for people who would like to help support the series.
Local and regional bands are featured on the Roosevelt stage on Sundays through Sept. 7. The final performance features Bo Ramsey, who is a Grammy Award-winning guitar player, two-time Grammy-nominated producer, Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and Iowa Blues Hall of Famer.

Summer Sundays at Jamie Hurd Amphitheater
Summer Sundays are back for the fourth season at the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater with live music from local artists. Bring supplies to get cozy, and don’t forget about the food trucks.
Concerts begin at 6 p.m. on Sundays until September.

Tunes at Twilight
Select Thursday nights this summer, Iowans can enjoy Tunes at Twilight at Johnston Town Center on the Yard. Attendees are invited to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets and break out their dancing shoes.
Concerts are from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on July 10, Aug. 7 and Sept. 11.

West Des Moines Community Band
The West Des Moines Community Band is bringing free live music to the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater. Bring a lawn chair or blankets and grab a snack from a food truck. The series will be available on Friday, July 4 and Wednesday, July 30.
