Valentine’s Day is the most romantic holiday of the year and that is why on this day in 2014 we shared a story with our readers of special couple who had been married for 70 years. Although it was the classic girl meets boy story, where two lonely hearts meet, fall in love, marry and together raise a beautiful family, what made Margaret and Michael Cervantes story so special is a simple fact that even after 70 years together their love for each other was still strong.
A year later, in 2015, we received heartbreaking news that Mrs. Cervantes, who had been suffering Alzheimer’s for quite some time, had passed away.
Margaret Barbara Garcia was born June 25, 1924, in Davenport, a daughter of George and Margaret (Foreman) Garcia. She was united in marriage to Michael H. Cervantes on July 12, 1943, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. They enjoyed 71 blissful years of marriage.
Last Saturday, Feb 6 of 2016 Mrs. Cervantes beloved husband and long partner in life followed his wife. Mr. Cervantes passed away peacefully at his home.
Somewhere out there, their love prevails and Michael once again is rejoined with the love of his life Margaret. We titled our story “Margaret & Michael Cervantes a 70-year+ Love story”. Our bodies may pass but true love lives beyond. Happy Valentine’s Day! May your love story last you more than a lifetime.
