Disney Branded Television has ordered a new show that will tell stories of a multicultural Mexican-American family. It will be produced by Natasha Kline and it is called “Primos”.
Natasha Kline is well known in the animation industry and she has worked on two other Disney Channel animated series. Kline directed and did storyboards of a few episodes of “Big City Greens” and she also was a writer for “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” for a short period of time. Before coming to work with Disney, Kline spent six years working as a storyboard artist for Comedy Central’s series “South Park”. Overall, she has more than a decade of experience in animation.
According to this Latina artist, “Primos” is based on her childhood memories of summers she spent with many of her cousins.
“As a kid, I didn’t see myself or my culture represented on screen, so I’m excited to share my family dynamic through these new Disney characters and stories,” Kline said.
The new show will center on Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old, who dreams big but who is also not aware of how extraordinary she is. Everything changes when 12 of her cousins move in for the summer and through fun events that will involve a lot of imagination and very secret diary entries, she discovers how special she is. “Primos” will be produced by Disney Television Animation.
In recent years Disney has created great Latino centric programing and featured movies in recent years. Elena of Avalor, 2016, was the first Latina Princess for Disney, Pixar’s Coco, a movie about the mexican Holiday Day of the Dead in 2017, was a great success and just last week Disney released their 60th animated film called Encanto. Encanto tells the story of a young girl and her family who have magical powers, except the girl herself. The story is set in Colombia.
“Primos” will be the first project for Kline as executive producer. This will be her first major production credit. She also will be doing some writing.
