The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the University of Wisconsin – Platteville are hosting a Día de las Ciencias (Science Day) on October 24th, 8:30 am – 2:00 pm at the UW-Platteville Campus / Ullsvik Hall. During that day attendees will participate in hands-on workshops related to science and engineering, learn more about the college admissions and financial aid process, and meet professors, staff, and current college students. Sessions and workshops will be offered in Spanish and English.

The program is intended for students in grades 8-12 and their families. Students from Hispanic or Latino/a background are especially encouraged to attend.

“Programs such as Día de Ciencias give the opportunity to Latino families to increase awareness of different university degrees and break the barriers that exist to achieve this dream. According to surveys, 90% of Latino college students consider important to have a college degree to be successful, however, only 48% consider the possibility. Día de Ciencias is an event that will give students and parents the tools to realize their dreams and secure their future. “
