Des Moines Menace returns home this Saturday, May 9, with a night designed for the Latino community and soccer fans in Iowa.
The team will face Capital City Roots at 7:00 p.m. at Mediacom Stadium in a friendly match that will also be part of Latino Heritage Night. The evening will include special features for attendees, including an LED rally towel giveaway, lucha libre appearances by Latin Thunder and Corn Boi, and a pregame clinic presented by Soccer Shots, according to information released by the club.
The match also brings a new story to follow: Alcides Diaz, a Panamanian midfielder who joins the Menace for the 2026 season.
Diaz, born in Panama City, arrives in Des Moines with professional experience from a young age. He made his professional debut at 19 with Alianza FC and has already played his first match in a Menace jersey during the team’s U.S. Open Cup game against Indy Eleven. Now, the 24-year-old is looking to bring creativity and pace to the midfield this summer.
For Iowa’s Latino community, the Menace’s first game is an opportunity to support the local team, enjoy a family-friendly night and celebrate soccer with Latino flavor.
