Davenport’s LULAC Council announces 2021 Scholarship winners



Latino civil rights organization prioritizes education – awards nearly $31,000 to Quad City students.


DAVENPORT, IA – Leaders of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 10 say education is the great equalizer. The Davenport organization continues its tradition of supporting local students pursuing higher education with over $30,800 in scholarship awards.


“The playing field is leveled with education,” said Michael Reyes, LULAC Council 10 Administrator. “For over 60 years our council has worked to support civil rights and education in our community, these scholarship awards are an important part of that effort.”


This year scholarships were awarded to 39 area high school, undergraduate and post graduate students:


Alexander Adame, German Albalopez, Claudia Artola, Abigail Behrends, Alleena Blackwell, Gabriella Bojorquez, Liliana Buxbaum-Lara, Carlos Cedeno-Perez, Adriana Chavez, Veronica Chavez, Erika Contreras, Kathleen Engel, Lesly Garcia, Beyonce Gonzalez, Johan Gonzalez, Andrew Gooding, Madison Hanssen, Celia Hernandez, Lauren Herrig, Kadin Kruse, Ashleigh Layer, Marly Lillibridge, Max Lillibridge, Aaliyah Lopez, Ashley Mancera, Yuliana Marceleno-Lopez, Arturo Martinez, Nikki Munson, Kirsten Osborn, Yasmin Pannell, Diego Portillo, Viviana Ramirez, Draven Ramirez, Isabella Reyes, Sam Reyes, Daniel Salazar, Marali Sanchez-Carmona, Christian Terronez and Karla Toquinto Guerra.


Awards are based on academic performance, financial need, community involvement and leadership.  Emphasis is also placed on an individual’s motivation, sincerity, and integrity, which is revealed through a personal essay.


To date, Davenport LULAC Council 10 has donated over $630,000 to over 1030 Quad City area students. The organization works year-round to raise funds through Friday Night Bingo, Trivia Nights, the annual LULAC VIVA QC Fiesta, the Adolph Lopez Annual Memorial Golf Outing, as well as corporate and individual sponsors and donations.
