This holiday season Ballet Quad Cities will perform “The Nutcracker” again at the Adler Theater in Davenport, Iowa but this time with the Italian-Mexican Domingo Rubio playing the role of Herr Drosselmeyer. Domingo Rubio has danced for more than twenty years and has studied dance from classical ballet, modern techniques, and even the flamenco. His dancing talent has led him to perform in stages all over the world.
Rubio has also illustrated several books on dance techniques; composed music for his choreographs and in the last decade has sculpted using different techniques including bronze. He has been recognized by critics as a dancer that demonstrates much emotion in his work. He’s also been featured in many publications for his work as an artist and dancer. Much of his work can be seen at his website, www.DomingoRubio.com
The Ballet Quad Cities dancers have also been going to area schools with their “Behind the Ballet” outreach program that teaches area students of the story of “The Nutcracker”, the music, dance steps and costumes used in the show. It also gives the students a chance to meet the dancers and chance to get a better understanding and appreciation for the professional dancing.
The Ballet Quad Cities’ “The Nutcracker” will be presented three times, starting Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 2p.m. at the Adler Theater in Davenport. For more information on tickets, call (563) 326-8555 or (563) 326-8500.
