Cinco de Mayo is becoming one of America’s favorite day for having fun. This year, don’t just pig out on chips and salsa washing it down with margaritas but, come out and participate, celebrate and even support and learn with others in your community. Below is the list of few fun and interesting things you can do this Cinco de Mayo.

#1 Glenview Mariachi Taco Fundraiser

Come out and support kids in local East Moline School. Thursday May 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Mariachi and tacos. Fundraiser for Glenview Mariachi Band will have a performance by Glenview Mariachi Band and music by DJ Guerrero. The meal is only $5 and it includes two tacos, rice and beans, drink and tortilla chips. The fundraiser will take place at Glenview Middle School located at 3100 7th Street, East Moline, IL.

# 2 Ganzo’s Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and Cinco de Mayo 5K Race

Two days filled with fun and entertainment. The party starts on Thursday May 5th with $2 Mexican beer specials and lime margaritas and food specials. There will be music by Banda Conjunto La Razon and Crooked Cactus starting at 5:00 PM.

Saturday May 7th is the main celebration. The whole day will be filled with fun things to do, great music and the Quad Cities famous Ganzo’s Cinco de Mayo 5K Race. The day will start at 8:30 AM with the Sombrero Shuffle Kid’s Run. If your children will not be running, check out the Bounce Houses. At 9:00 AM Ganzo’s Cinco de Mayo 5K will start. DJ Compa will be playing from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Children can get their faces painted later on starting at 12:00 PM enjoy the beautiful traditional dances performed by Ballet Folklorico. If you are brave enough sign up for the Jalapeño Eating Contest that will start at 2:00 PM. After the excruciating, for contestants’ taste buds, jalapeño eating contest stay for music by the following bands: Conjunto La Razon, Cosmic Band and Crooked Cactus. And of course what kind of Cinco de Mayo would it be without piñatas!  Get ready for a day filled with fun, music and entertainment. #4 Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce Executives Club

If margaritas and races are not your thing, mark your calendar for May 6 and plan to attend Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce for Executives Club where you can listen to Rich Caturano address the topic of diversity. Caturano is a partner in the Boston office of RSM and a national leader in the following areas: culture, diversity and inclusion. He will share his point of view how people of different cultures, political affiliations, religious backgrounds and even different ways of viewing things could enrich our communities and companies. Rich Caturano will speak on Friday. May 6 from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM at MetroLINK Centre Station located at 1200 River Drive, Moline, IL. For tickets go to events.quadcitieschamber.com

Canelo 2Finally, Cinco de Mayo could not end without a good fight. Boxing fans tune in for Canelo vs. Khan on PPV. Canelo vs. Khan is a match that took the whole boxing world by surprise. Tune in on Saturday, May 7 at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT for Canelo vs. Khan fight on HBO PPV.
