December 12 is an important celebration for many people of faith in the Latino community. This is the day when many believers celebrate the Feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Many events are happening all over Iowa to honor and celebrate la Virgencita. Here is a list of some celebrations happening in Iowa.

Davenport

Sunday, December 11 at 5 AM, 

and Monday, December 12 at 5:30 PM 

at St. Anthony’s Church in Davenport

Sunday the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe will begin at 5 am with Las Mañanitas. There will be a mass and special dance by Danza Azteca Asunción at 10 am. At 11 am there will be a rosary with Tamborazo following the rosary. Mass will start at 12 pm and at 1 pm another presentation by Danza Azteca Asunción and food. 

On Monday December 12 the celebration will start with the rosary at 5:30 followed by mass at 6:30 pm. The evening will end at 7:30 pm with Danza Azteca Asunción and food.

West Liberty

Sunday, December 11 at 11 AM, 

and Monday, December 12 at 7 PM 

at Saint Joseph Church in West Liberty

Sunday the procession will begin at 11 am at downtown West Liberty. The mass to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe will start at 12 pm. There will be gathering for attendees after the mass at the church hall.

Sunday, December 11 at 7 AM,

at Saint Joseph Church at Columbus Junction

Celebration of Our Lady of Guadslupe will start with Las Mañanitas in downtown Columbus Junction at 7 am. Stores in downtown will offer coffee and bread. At 8:45 am the procession starts and the mass will be at 10 am inside the high School gymnasium. After the mass there will be a gathering in the church basement. 

On monday, December 12 there will be another Mañanitas and the last Rosary at 5 am.

Des Moines

Sunday, December 11, at 11:30 AM, 

Rancho las 3 Potrancas

A parade on horseback (cabalgata) will start at around 11:30 am. There also will be Rosary at 1 pm and dances for Our Lady of Guadalupe at 2 pm. Music and food and drinks free.

Des Moines

Sunday, December 11 at 4:30 PM,

at St. Anthony Church in Des Moines, IA

The celebration will start with a play at 4:30 pm. There will be Rosary at 5 pm and the procession will begin at 6 pm. There will be special celebration after at the Parish Hall. On December 12, the day will start with Las Mañanitas at 6 am and a bilingual mass at 7 am.

Monday, December 12 at 5:15 AM 

at Christ the King Church in Des Moines

The celebration will start with Las Mañanitas with Mariachi and the mass will follow at 5:30 am. There will be events in the evening starting at 5:45 pm with Las Pastorcitas and Rosary after. The procession will begin at 7 pm, and a special celebration mass will start at 7:30 pm. There will be a celebration after mass at the Parish Hall.

Dance Group Hijos de Maria invites everyone to this special celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. On Saturday, there will be a presentation by the group, a coronation of the Virgen, and an offering of roses. Las Mañanitas will be at 6 pm, followed by a rosary. Food at 7 pm, and the celebration will continue until 11 pm. Sunday celebration will continue with prayer at 8 am. There will be breakfast. Rosary, Mañanitas, and even talks about appearances of the Virgen. The event will end at 5;30 pm.

The celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe will start with Las Mañanitas at 5 am. The celebration mass will be on Monday at 5:30 pm followed by a gathering of participants.

Quad Cities, Moline, IL

For those who live in the Quad City area and cannot make their way to any of Iowa’s celebrations, come out to the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Moline, IL

Sunday, December 11 at 2 PM, 

and Monday, December 12 at 4 AM 

at St. Mary’s Church in Moline, IL

The celebration will start with a rosary at 2 pm. Following the rosary there will be presentations of dance groups, tamborazo and worship music before the mass starts at 6:30 pm. 

Monday, December 12 will start with Las Mañanitas at 4 am, followed by worship, dance group presentation, and breakfast at 6;30 am. After the breakfast, there will be a mass at 8:30 am. The day will end either procession starting at 4:30 pm.
