Body of man found burning in a ditch in Iowa has been identified

A man found burning in a ditch northwest of Kellogg, Iowa is now identified as Michael Williams, 44-year-old from Grinnell, Iowa.  

The investigation of this incident started on Wednesday after some witnesses saw the fire North of 67th Avenue East. Witnesses that saw the fire thought it was an animal burning, but after looking closer they realized it was a man.  

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office asked the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (Iowa DCI) for help with this case. The Special Agent of Iowa DCI. Adam DeCampo stated that the condition of the body was the reason why they classified this case as a homicide. He also added that an autopsy will determine if it is indeed a homicide. DeCampo also said that unlike what people think fire does not destroy all the evidence and law enforcement can extract some clues that could help them solve the crime.
