bailedelsolAfter last year’s successful Sun Dance Festival, the man who put on the event, Ignaico “Nacho” Gonzalez decided to hold the event again. This year’s event will be held in front of Los Cuates Sports Bar, 821 15th St., in East Moline from 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, July 28.
Gonzalez decided to create the event because he used to see many festivals for the Mexican/Latino people in Chicago, where he is from. The event is a  benefit for East Moline’s Garfield Park.
“I wanted to do something different for the Mexican/Latino people here,” he said.
Last year’s headliners Los Paisas de Durango will return to provide the musical entertainment and will be joined this year by Los Compas del Norte who have been incorporating new sounds to their group this year.  There will be three piñatas, arts and crafts for the children. Goodie bags will be available at both entrances, free of charge. The bags feature crayons, pencils, and coloring books. The event is free for children 12 and $5 for adults.
People are advised to bring their own chairs because there will not be enough for everybody. The Moline Mexican restaurant La Flama will have their food available at the event.
Gonzalez said that the main reasons to go are that kids free will enjoy the event and that the Sun Dance Festival benefits for East Moline’s Garfield Park. “Hopefully the people will enjoy it as the event is for the kids,” he said. “I hope a lot of people come. I hope many families come to have a good time.”
