Saint Paul, MN – The Minnesota Latino Leadership Alliance (MiLLA), a coalition of Latino-led and Latino-serving organizations committed to advancing the social, economic, legal, and political needs of Minnesota’s Latino community, called for immediate action at the State Capitol to address the fallout since the federal occupation in Minnesota by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) began earlier this year.

As Minnesota’s Latino community has come under attack, the 2026 Legislative Session provides an important opportunity for Minnesota’s elected leaders to take a stand and fight back to defend the immigrant communities which make Minnesota great.

“Our communities flourish when everyone feels safe to live, work, and participate in public life,” said Alma Flores, Executive Director of the Latino Economic Development Center.

The Alliance unveiled three priority pillars of its legislative agenda for the 2026 session. These include:

  • Passage of the STAR Act to protect Minnesotans.
  • Economic recovery relief to support immigrant-owned small businesses which have been decimated by the federal occupation.
  • Protection of funding for nonprofit service providers in the state bonding bill to ensure all Minnesotans have access to the resources they need to live their lives with dignity.

“Nonprofit organizations are on that frontline every day,” said Representative María Isa Pérez-Vega. “Including funding for them in the bonding bill is an important step forward.”

Representative Jay Xiong shared that he is currently working on an economic relief bill to “support not just businesses, but people who have been impacted from this federal occupation.”

Minnesota’s Latino leaders made it clear that the need for decisive, bold action to protect Minnesota’s immigrant communities has never been more obvious. Members of the Minnesota Legislature must work together to advance legislation standing up to the federal campaign sowing terror and division throughout our streets.
