The event, held at the Wilson Center on campus, will feature a conversation with the author, a book sale and signing (Spanish edition), and a tasting of Mexican food. It’s part of Augustana’s commitment to promoting Mexican literature in Iowa and celebrating the growing Latino community across the Quad Cities.

About the Author

Samanta Echevarría, born in Querétaro, Mexico, has lived in the Quad Cities for several years. A former Spanish instructor at Augustana College, she recently published her first novel in Mexico and returns to campus now as a writer to share her work with students and the community.

Her presentation, “Preserving Mexico, Reclaiming Identity: Family, Memory and Migration in the Writing of Samanta Echevarría,” will explore how her personal history and immigrant experience influence her storytelling voice.

A Book that Preserves Mexican Memory

Memorias de Tierra Adentro is a heartfelt reflection on family, identity, and belonging. It weaves together nostalgia and history to tell what it means to live between two worlds.

“It’s a book about preserving Mexico, even when life takes you far from it,” reads the event description. For many Midwestern readers, Echevarría’s work mirrors the emotional journey of migration and the enduring bond with one’s homeland.
