The road to becoming UFC’s current women’s flyweight champion has not been what she thought it would be for Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko (16-3). Moving from bantamweight to flyweight last year, her first fight in the division was cancelled making her wait until last December where she would face former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant UFC women’s flyweight title where she would go on to win via judge’s decision.

Since that win, Shevchenko didn’t want to jump into another fight to soon and has waited to defend her title for the first time this weekend against Jessica Eye (14-6) in the co-main event of UFC 238: Cejudo vs Moraes. Eye also moved down to the flyweight division and is coming into this fight on a three- fight win streak. Flyweights, Joanne Calderwood and Katlyn Chookagian who are ranked #6 and #2, respectfully, kick off the night’s fights and will definitely be paying attention who wins between Shevchenko and Eye as they may be the next in line for the title

Valentina Shevchenko will face Jessica Eye for the UFC women’s flyweight title in the co-main event of UFC 238: Cejudo vs Moraes this Saturday night from the United Center in Chicago, Ill. Main card starts at 9pm CT on PPV.
