It was a chance for people to come together and have a good time.
Sunday’s Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico Fiesta Night at the Moline Community Center, 1613 5th Ave., brought out dancers and families in the area for authentic Mexican food, live music by Los Mocambos and performances by the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico. <\/p>

Proceeds from Sunday’s event will go toward the group’s upcoming June production.
“Everybody helps out with events like this,” said QCBF director Karina Camarillo, of Moline. “We couldn’t do it with just the dancers.” <\/p>\n

QCBF wants to become a permanent fixture of Mexican culture in the Quad-Cities through dance and music. There are numerous performances throughout the year from dancers ranging in age from six to 16.
The organization was started by Ms. Camarillo’s parents in 1984. <\/p>\n

Ms. Camarillo said there are 43 dancers in the Quad-Cities that practice for six hours a week. QCBF performs at churches, schools, festivals and community organizations. <\/p>\n

“A lot of families are involved from the whole Quad-Cities area,” Ms. Camarillo said.
Ms. Camarillo said parents take an active role in keeping the organization together. Much of the work is volunteer. <\/p>

"It’s the support that we get from the community that shows what we do actually matters,” she said, as music from Los Mocambos played in the background. <\/p>\n

In a pamphlet handed out by the group, it said QCBF can perform 80 to 100 dances from different states and different time periods in Mexico. <\/p>
