The scholarship program is open to entering freshmen only.<br \/>  <!--more--> <br \/> Applications are available from high school counselors in area high schools or can be obtained from the LULAC Scholarship Committee Chairman Henry Vargas 563-323-4088 or Ernest Rodriguez 563-323-5409. <\/p>\n<p> The deadline for submitting the applications is March 31, 2008 with no exceptions. Scholarship awards are based on grades and academic performance; however, emphasis may be placed on the individual&rsquo;s motivation, sincerity, and integrity, which can best be revealed through a personal essay. <\/p><div id=\"holaa-2008201399\" class=\"holaa-ad-inside-articles-2\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;margin-bottom: 2px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"holaa-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesperformingarts.org\/whats-on\/series\/summerarts\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" aria-label=\"HI-SummerSeries-300&#215;250-SP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/HI-SummerSeries-300x250-SP.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><br style=\"clear: both; display: block; float: none;\"\/>\n<p> Need, community involvement, and leadership activities will also be considered. Students can go to the LULAC Council #10 web site http:\/\/www.geocities.com\/lulac10_2000\/LULAC\/Page_1x.html where there are links to other sources for scholarships.<\/p>\n<p> LULAC has considered education its number one priority since it was established in 1929. LULAC Council 10 of Davenport has awarded over a quarter million in scholarships since 1975. Council 10 raises funds locally through a BINGO operation at its Activity Center, the annual LULAC Fiesta fundraiser, and corporate and individual donations. <\/p>\n<p> Local funds are submitted to the LULAC National Scholarship Fund, (LNSF) for matching funds. Matching funds usually amount to 60% or more. Donations to Council 10 of LULAC may be sent to: LULAC Council 10, P.O. BOX 4616, and Davenport, IA 52808-4616.
