The David Sanchez Saxophone Trio, nominated for four Grammy’s and winner of a Latin Grammy, will perform at the Davenport Public Library Main Street location, 321 Main Street, on Thursday, March 6 at 6 p.m. <\/p>\n

Angela Campbell, PR\/Programming Coordinator for the Davenport Library said the library is very excited to have the David Sanchez Saxophone Trio come. She thanked Quad City Arts for offering their “Visiting Artists” series to local schools and organizations. <\/p>

“I chose the Trio because I know there is much interest in the community about Latin music and culture. We offered two huge Latino inspired events last year (Iowa Stories 2000 & Day of the Child, Day of the Book) with great turnout and success,” she said.<\/p>\n

Sanchez’ most recent recording “Coral” won a Latin Grammy after being voted “Best Instrumental Album.” According to a release by the Davenport Library, Sanchez explores obscure works composed by giants of the Latin American classical genre. He also combines classical structure with jazz improvisation in two of his original tunes. At the performer’s official website (www.davidsanchezmusic.com), you can find pictures and reviews of his work and performances as well as tour dates for the Puerto Rican born performer, who has performed in Mexico City, Belgium, Denmark and even Russia.<\/p>\n

“The fact that he is a Latin Grammy award-winner makes it even more special for the Library and our patrons. Because he is a visiting artist, he will also be at other venues throughout the Quad Cities during that same time period, but we want to encourage people to come to the Library and see the show for free,” Campbell said “One reason we offer numerous and diverse programs to the community is to draw new users. <\/p>\n

For example, many people don’t know the Library has music CDs, DVDs and other entertainment available for free to checkout.
