The audience was in for a different night of entertainment on Saturday, Feb. 1 when the The Latina Dance Project presented “Coyolxauhqui Remembers” at the Galvin Fine Arts Center at St.Ambrose University. <\/p>\n

Much like performance art this telling of four different stories, strayed away from overwhelming the audience with a wealth of props and technology and instead kept it simple to not distract their audience from the power of the performances.
The mood is set when the audience views images of clusters of stars, the hypnotic music commands your attention to the stage, and a voice over informs the audience on the myth of the Aztec Moon Goddess Coyolxauhqui. <\/p>

Almost immediately you are presented with the first of four stories. All of which give commentary on the feminist perspective and tying it all back to the myth. <\/p>\n

The second and third story spoke to our modern times when woman are told to not to be assertive and abandon our individuality in order to be accepted into society. The last story is of Coyolxauhqui herself which bookended the evening’s powerful performances. <\/p>\n

All of the four performers in “Coyolxauhqui Remembers” gave moving and powerful performances upon the stage. With very little on stage, they dug into each one of their characters that it was almost impossible to divert your attention away from the performers. <\/p>\n
