Atletico de Madrid, though fourth in Spain’s La Liga standings lost to Athletic, prompting team president, Enrique Cerezo to be bothered by the team’s performance. The team president noted that he was disappointed in the team losing third place in the league’s standings.

The team is coached by Javier Aguirre and the team has received pressure all year to earn at least third place in La Liga. Villareal leads Atletico de Madrid by two points for third place.<\/p>\n

Real Madrid lost to Betis 2-1 and with Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Zaregoza, Barcelona is only behind five points from Real Madrid. However, Mexico’s Rafa Marquez had a horrible game defending. <\/p>

He allowed a man to pass him for one goal and pushed another to give Zaragoza a penalty kick. Zaragoza failed and Marquez was saved from being critiqued indefinitely.<\/p>\n

In Germany, Pavel Pardo and Ricardo Osorio’s Stuttgart has had a disappointing season. They won this week 3-2 over Duisburgo but are now only tenth in the standings. <\/p>\n

In Turkey, Antonio de Nigris’ Ankaraspor is in 15th place, two points out of relegation. They lost 3-2 to Beisktas. However, Carlos Salcidos’ PSV Eindhoven has a nine point lead in the Netherlands and won again this week 1-0 over Willem II.<\/p>\n

By the time you read this, the Mexican national team would have played Chile on Wednesday in preparation for the pre-Olympic tournament. They will play Paraguay, on Wednesday, February 27 in Ecuador. <\/p>

They will travel to the United States on Sunday, March 2nd in Oakland, Calif. against Australia and Thursday, March 6 against Finland in Dallas. <\/p>\n

Giovanni Dos Santos (Barcelona), Héctor Moreno (Az Alkmaar), Andrés Guardado (Deportivo de La Coruña) y Carlos Vela (Osasuna) will not be able to play in those matches because of the European calendar. <\/p>
